Fern Grotto

At the south side of the Wailua River, witness a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns. At the grotto, you will be greeted by traditional Hawaiian musicians playing beautiful island songs. The area serves as a natural amphitheater, providing powerful acoustics and enhanced vocals. The trip up this historic and sacred river takes about 40 minutes via a long flat-bottom riverboat. Boats depart from the south side of the river every 30 minutes.

Kauai Coffee Company

Kauai Coffee started in the early 1800’s as McBryde Sugar Company, one of the first sugar growers in Hawaii. It transformed into Kauai Coffee in 1987. Coffee production and processing has become a staple part of creating the delicious estate coffee that Kauai Coffee has become known for. Stop by for a tour, partake of some coffee samples, and wander leisurely through their Gift Shop and Museum.

Kauai Museum

The Kauai Museum is a cultural sanctuary housing numerous Hawaiian artifacts and art of Native Hawaiians. The Kauai Museum gift shop is also a must-see Kauai attraction, offering an extensive book collection, unique Hawaiian crafts, Ni’ihau shell leis, and vintage collectibles.

Kilauea Lighthouse

Visit this prominent landmark which was used to light the way for mariners back in 1913, serving as a pivotal navigation aid for ships sailing along the Orient run. The lighthouse remains functional and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It continues to be a popular destination for sighting rare sea birds and whale watching in season. It is offers a great viewing opportunity since it is the northernmost point of the main Hawaiian Islands.

Kokee Natural History Museum

The name “Opaeka’a” means rolling shrimp, “opae” being Hawaiian for “shrimp,” and “ka’a” for “rolling.” The name dates back to days when the native freshwater shrimp were plentiful in the stream and were seen rolling and tumbling down the falls and into the churning waters at the fall’s base.

Wailua Falls

Wailua Golf Course

Wailua Golf Course was first built as a nine-hole golf course in the 1930’s. The second nine holes were added in 1961. Kayak the Wailua River

Wailua River is a long, meandering river that starts at the Wai’ale’ale Crater and is fueled by several tributaries on its way to the ocean. This is the only navigable river in all of Hawaii and one of the best Kauai attractions to explore. Several forks in the river lead to waterfalls and can be adventurously explored by kayak or SUP (stand-up paddle board).

Waimea Canyon

Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific, measuring ten miles long, one mile wide, and more than 3,500-feet deep. The lines in the canyon walls depict different volcanic eruptions and lava flows that have occurred over the centuries. One of the best Kauai activities, numerous lookouts and hikes offer terrific views of every aspect of this natural wonder.
